In June of 2019, Envirologic celebrated 30 years of providing environmental consulting and services throughout Michigan and the surrounding region. We've continued to celebrate this monumental milestone throughout 2019 and 2020 by hosting our 30th Anniversary Celebration, releasing our "Celebrating 30 Years!" video, and sponsoring various events and organizations across the state. Now that we've completed our 30th year, we are taking the opportunity to reflect on our history as a company.
Over the years, Envirologic has evolved in numerous ways -- from expanding our service offerings and areas, to incorporating new technologies and methods, to complying with new industry standards. But the key pillars that Envirologic was founded on in 1989 have remained the same. We still prioritize our client-focused culture, pride ourselves on our highly qualified and knowledgeable staff, approach projects in logical and innovative ways, and strive to follow our companywide Vision to "Do Good Work to Do Good." In large part, this is due to the continued leadership of our Co-owners, Jeff Hawkins (CEO, Founder) and David Warwick (President).
Jeff and David have been at the helm of Envirologic essentially since its beginning. They originally met and became close friends during their graduate courses at Western Michigan University. Jeff founded Envirologic five years into his career in environmental consulting, at the age of 28. With the help of numerous individuals and his former partner, Jeff saw Envirologic turning a steady profit after six months of starting. It was then that he reached out to David, his former classmate, and offered him a position with the company. Together, they helped shape Envirologic into what it is today by continuously applying sound science with integrity and always keeping clients end goals in mind. This consistency, in addition to adding new talent and experience through a committed group of like-minded professionals (many of whom have made their careers at Envirologic), has contributed to over 30 years of success and satisfied customers.
With 35 years of environmental consulting experience, Jeff has developed significant expertise in all aspects of environmental services with an emphasis in brownfield redevelopment. He is an expert in layering various brownfield redevelopment tools and programs to help incentivize projects for communities, developers, and governmental agencies. Jeff leads business development at Envirologic, traveling throughout the state, and directly manages several communities and developer clients. Jeff has a bachelor's degree in Geology from Southern Illinois University and a master's degree in Earth Science from Western Michigan University. Jeff frequently serves as an expert on brownfield redevelopment issues and is an instructor for the annual course on economic development offered through the Michigan Economic Developers Association. He also serves on the Michigan Geological Survey's Advisory Council and is Chair of Western Michigan University's Geosciences Advisory Council. In his spare time, Jeff is a "jack of all hobbies and a master of none" -- he enjoys mountain biking, paddleboarding, kayaking, gardening, fishing, and boating.
David also has 35 years of environmental experience. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Geology from Eastern Kentucky University and holds a master's degree in Geology from Western Michigan University. David directs Envirologic's operations by working with a team of administrative professionals who implement business strategy and develop processes and procedures that allow technical staff to perform their work. He also directs the company's remedial investigation and remediation service areas by assisting project professionals with strategy development and project implementation. Additionally, he directly manages contaminant investigations, compliance projects, and property redevelopment projects.
David has been an active member, as well as a past Board Member and President, of the Southwest Michigan Sustainable Business Forum, where he maintained his interest in sustainability. He is also a member of the Michigan Association of Environmental Professionals, American Institute of Professional Geologists, and Air and Waste Management Association. David is an avid cyclist, wine enthusiast, and wood worker. He also enjoys traveling, hiking, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
As a part of Envirologic's 30th Anniversary Celebration event in 2019, Vice President David Stegink presented a message from staff to Jeff and David that perfectly encapsulated the wonderful impact they have had on us employees, our community, and our business as a whole. "Our guests today may have worked with you from time to time and experienced your integrity, empathy, intelligence, humility, and drive. But we, the employees of Envirologic, get to experience those traits every day. Those qualities that you continually demonstrate are embedded in our culture and direct how we all work together. . . . We are grateful to have the opportunity to tell our leaders: Thank you. We respect you. We love you."
